How to Choose a Safety Padlock

A safety padlock is meant to provide a measure of safety beyond that offered by a tag alone. Used properly in conjunction with a well-planned lockout process, the safety padlock helps ensure that employees will not inadvertently energize a piece of equipment while someone else is working on it.

Key Charted Systems

It is important that each employee has a padlock key that is unique to them. This is to avoid one employee being able to remove another employee’s personal padlock.

Registered Site – recommended for large sites or sites concerned with key duplication. Orders will be built to order and registered in the Master Lock Oracle system

Non Registered Site – recommended for small-medium sites. Orders will be supplied with randomly picked safety padlocks from 108,000 key codes available.

How do I register my site? Simply complete the MASTER LOCK KEY CHARTING REGISTRATION FORM and forward it along with your official purchase order to your authorised Master Lock reseller.

A unique ID number will be assigned to your site and sent via email to the nominated email address. (Please keep your end user ID number in a secure place and quote it on all future orders that you place)

Padlock Keying

Keyed Different (KD) – Each lock is opened by its own unique key. This is standard on all Master Lock Safety padlocks.

Keyed Alike (KA) – This option provides “same key” convenience and eliminates the need for multiples keys where numerous padlocks are used. Keyed alike is ideal for situations where employees have more than one padlock.

Master Keyed (MK) – In a Master Keyed System, a master key opens all the locks in the system allowing for supervisory access.

Padlock Durability

Master Lock safety lockout padlocks withstand corrosive conditions, harsh chemicals, debris and severe temperatures found in the diverse industries where our products are used. Master Lock develops new padlock features and selects materials in response to customer and industry requirements. For example, the S31 with 4.76mm stainless steel shackle was designed to address smaller lockout points while also offering the highest level of corrosion resistance.

Master Lock’s safety lockout padlocks have a lightweight, thermoplastic body that cannot rust.
